Heavy Work Activities to Calm Restless Kids
If your child seems restless, emotional, or easily frustrated in January, one helpful approach is called heavy work.
Heavy work activities use big muscle groups and help calm the nervous system. These activities are soothing, help kids feel organized, and work well for young children.
Examples of Heavy Work
- Pushing a laundry basket
- Carrying books or groceries
- Wall push-ups
- Sweeping or wiping tables
- Animal walks (bear crawl, crab walk)
Doing these activities for just 10 to 15 minutes a day can make a real difference.
Why Heavy Work Works
- Improves focus
- Reduces emotional overload
- Helps children feel grounded
- Supports self-regulation
Faith Reminder
God made children to be active. Their bodies and minds are meant to work together.
“In Him we live and move and have our being.” Acts 17:28
Movement is not a distraction. It is an important part of how children learn.
