Screen Time

Tip & Tricks

The effects of screen time on child development are a growing concern among parents, educators, and health professionals. Research has found that excessive screen time can have a range of negative impacts on children, including delayed language acquisition, decreased attention span, and poor social skills. Children who spend too much time in front of screens also tend to have disrupted sleep patterns, which can lead to fatigue and difficulty concentrating during the day.

While not all screen time is created equal, it’s essential to understand the types of activities that may be harmful to a child’s development. For example, passive screen time, such as watching TV or videos, has been shown to have more negative effects than interactive screen time, such as playing educational games or video chatting with family and friends.

To ensure the healthy development of our children, parents must monitor and limit their child’s screen time. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that children between the ages of 2 and 5 have no more than one hour of high-quality screen time per day. In contrast, children over six should have consistent limits on the amount of screen time they have each day.

In addition to limiting screen time, parents can also encourage other activities that promote healthy development, such as reading, outdoor play, and creative play. By taking a proactive approach to managing our children’s screen time, we can help them develop strong cognitive, social, and emotional skills that will serve them well throughout their lives.
